Data-driven Optimization for a Vital Elderly Care System in the Netherlands (‘DOLCE VITA’)

Today’s system of acute geriatric care in the Netherlands is not functioning optimally. Older persons experience major difficulties in receiving prompt, adequate and appropriate care when needed. The root cause of the problem is a complex interplay between capacity bottlenecks at transition points between care providers, a lack of coordination between the stakeholders due to differences in interest, policy changes and a lack of quantitative insight and alignment in demand and supply of care resources. Moreover, achieving patient-relevant outcomes is not central in these decisions. In this project, we will develop methods and tools to overcome these problems, which ultimately leads to a high-quality geriatric care system in the Netherlands.
