Ultra-fast analysis of food by SAWN-MS

SAWN is a new form of ambient ionisation that was recently introduced as an alternative ionization method for MS offering competitive advantages over existing techniques by reducing sample analysis time and experiment complexity. SAWN is compatible with direct mass spectrometry of miniscule samples at femtomole sensitivity. To perform SAWN, the sample is loaded onto piezoelectric sampling chip where acoustic waves are propagated through the liquid sample that generates a fine mist of droplets. During evaporation of the droplets the molecules convert to gaseous ions ready for MS analysis. We have developed SAWN technology for the characterisation of numerous types of samples.
