VitroJet Pin-Printing (VPP)

Cryo Transmission Electron Microscopy (Cryo-TEM) recently has emerged as a powerful technique to elucidate the 3D-structure of macromolecular complexes at near-atomic-resolution. For Life Science Research and Pharmaceutical Research, this knowledge provides fundamental insight in understanding the structure–function relationship of important proteins thus enabling the development of novel medicines. In Cryo-TEM samples are observed under cryo conditions to limit beam damage. Rapid vitrification of the biological sample (buffers with proteins and cells) is essential to avoid formation of ice crystals. Although vitrification is the main determinant for obtaining the full potential from the multi-million-dollar costing TEM’s, existing sample preparation approaches suffer from important limitations not only in terms of sample quality but also in terms of throughput.

CryoSol-World B.V. has been established as a company dedicated to the preparation i.e. vitrification of biological samples for Cryo-TEM in the next few years and for all microscopies relevant for Life Science Research, Pharmaceutical Research and Medical Applications in the longer run.
