Free-space electromagnetic modulation with focal-plane arrays using non-linear power amplifiers (FREEPOWER), to enable millimeter-wave front-haul links in future 5G/6G wireless infrastructure

Future 5G/6G wireless communications require millimeter-wave front-haul/back-haul antennas with
electronic beamforming to connect the central office with remote radio units. In this project we propose to develop a novel front-haul antenna system based on the focal-plane-array concept and employing a new concept, LINCA, to create linear phased-array transmitters using power-efficient non-linear power amplifiers applied on array level. Our “out-spacing” concept takes the traditional circuit-level out-spacing concepts towards the electromagnetic domain. In this way, the power consumption is reduced with at least a factor of 100
