Quantum Hall physics in a Weyl superconductor

Samenvatting

The question whether a superconductor in a magnetic field can support Landau levels is a celebrated problem in the context of d-wave superconductivity, with a negative answer: The scattering of the subgap excitations (Bogoliubov quasiparticles) by the magnetic vortex lattice destroys the Landau level quantization. We recently discovered that the same question has a positive answer for a Weyl superconductor: The chirality of the Weyl fermions protects the zeroth Landau level by means of a topological index theorem. The objective of this proposal is to demonstrate that the vortex lines in a Weyl superconductor form dissipationless conduction channels for Weyl fermions, allowing for transmission of heat and charge with a quantized thermal and electrical conductance - even in the presence of disorder.
