Summary

The Wageningen University & Research-led Flagship research programme Food Systems for Healthier diets is part of the IFPRI-led CRP Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH) and focuses on the interlinkages between dietary transitions and the dynamics of food system change (input supply, production, processing, retail) with the aim to provide evidence for innovations for healthier and sustainable diets. The Senior Expert is the flagship leader of this large international research partnership including 5 CGIAR Centers (IFPRI, CIAT, Bioversity International, IITA) and other partners (GAIN) in collaboration with a large technical and public-private partnerships and networks in the four A4NH focus countries (Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Vietnam). The Senior Expert will (1) coordinate the flagship program in collaboration with the CGIAR partners and the country teams in the focus countries, and ensure (inter)national visibility of FSHD activities and successes and (2) provide expanded global leadership in analytical understanding of healthiness and sustainability of diets in a food system context through development of metrics and tools for diet assessment, providing scientific basis for development of food based dietary guidelines to facilitate in country management of dietary transitions and to strengthen inclusiveness in food system innovations to address the dietary needs of vulnerable and high0risk populations in the A4NH focus countries. The SEP grant compensates the costs for part of the time-investment of the Senior Expert to reduce the costs for A4NH-CGIAR for management of the flagship.
