East Kalimantan

The aim of the East Kalimantan programme was to strengthen collaboration between Dutch and Indonesian research groups in the area of Indonesian coastal studies. The research focused mainly on coastal areas in the Mahakam delta and the Berau region.

The research projects revolved around the connection between natural processes, biological variability and human activity in coastal regions. The research aimed to understand how socioeconomic factors influence human activities and how these these activities affect the dynamics of coastal systems. The effects of government policy were also investigated.

Duration

The programme ran until mid 2013.

Budget

A budget of 3.65 million euros was available for the programme. NWO and KNAW funded the programme.
