Biomolecular Chemistry (BMC)

The study group Biomolecular Chemistry focuses on, amongst others, the following developments:

  • Thanks to standard gene expression and mutation technologies enzymes and proteins are now readily available. They have become standard components in nano-bio-electronics, renewable energy and complex catalysis processes.
  • The advent of more accurate and more sensitive analytical tools such as single enzyme studies, scanning probe microscopy, and micro and nano-biosensors enable scientists to to completely unravel complex mechanisms of enzymes and proteins.
  • The majority of biological complexes are part of a multi-component complex system. Biomimetic complex cascades and architectures, and predicting behavior of complex models are important research topics in the next decade.
