Dutch Research Agenda– Innovation and Networks

Dutch Research Agenda– Innovation and Networks

On behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), NWO has funded research in the context of the Dutch Research Agenda since 2018. This programme has four parts. Below, you will find information about Innovation and Networks.

Innovation: NWA Idea generator

Besides facilitating connections between the entire knowledge chain, the NWA programme also focusses on innovation: the NWA as a stimulus for curiosity and inspiration throughout the Netherlands. Ideas are the basis for research and innovation: ideas can lead to highly promising new directions, but equally ideas that show that a different direction should be taken. Within the NWA, such ideas will be realised using the Idea generator.

Networks: NWA routes

The NWA has 25 routes. The 25 routes form self-organising networks that put important scientific, societal and economic questions in society on the agenda and investigate them. The routes are organised by route leaders and flagship leaders. Routes play a role in organising the field and ensure increased involvement along the entire knowledge chain, bringing together relevant consortium partners, facilitating knowledge utilisation, giving recognition to potential societal and/or scientific breakthroughs in the route and monitoring the key aims of the route and the NWA. Furthermore, with this approach, the routes ensure a programming effect within the research field. The routes can request funding to support their organisation.

In 2019, the budget for Innovation and Networks is 5.1 million euros. The budget for Innovation (the NWA Idea generator) is 3.85 million euros in 2019, and the budget for Networks (financial support for the routes) is 1.25 million euros in 2019.

NWO acts in line with the measures that the government is taking in the approach of the corona virus. This has consequences for funding rounds, current research and NWO policy. For more information go to www.nwo.nl/corona-en
