HERA: international humanities collaboration

The HERA Joint Research Programmes provide funding for transnational, multidisciplinary research with a clear focus on the humanities. The humanities are crucial to the understanding and conceptualising of fundamental changes in contemporary European society.

HERA

Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA) is a partnership between Humanities research councils. HERA's aim is to give the humanities a strong position in the European Research Area and the Framework Programmes of the European Commission. In addition to this, the partners jointly fund - often with co-funding from the European Commission - HERA Joint Research Programmes. NWO Social Sciences and Humanities is responsible for the coordination of the HERA network and for the associated contracts with the European Commission.

The HERA Joint Research Programmes fund multidisciplinary research with a clear focus on the humanities. In the research projects, researchers from at least four participating countries work together. The following thematic programmes have been started to date:
