NWO develops supportive policies on various issues.
NWO is committed to a better gender balance to make sure that we know all the available talent to tap.
The NWO knowledge utilization policy aims to support researchers and, where necessary, to boost their activities to promote the possible relevance of their research and to involve stakeholders.
NWO is convinced that research results obtained with public funding should be made as publicly accessible as possible. This applies to both scientific publications (journal articles, books) and research data.
NWO takes part in the top sectors policy of the current Dutch government. Within nine designated sectors, the collaboration between companies, researchers and the government is being encouraged. In this process, NWO ensures a good connection between the ambitions of the top sectors and the funding of scientific research within these areas.
As a research council and an employer at the NWO institutes, NWO shares responsibility for the scientific integrity of the research it finances, and it makes efforts to prevent and detect violations of integrity. NWO policy aligns with that of the universities, the Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU) and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
Vision for science
On November 25, 2014, the Dutch Cabinet sent its Vision for Science 2025, choices for the future to Parliament. The vision provides an approach for Dutch science to continue to play its part at the international forefront of scientific research.
