Today NWO chair Stan Gielen announced that professor Anna Akhmanova, professor Marileen Dogterom, professor Carsten de Dreu and professor John van der Oost receive the NWO Spinoza Prize, and professor Beatrice de Graaf and professor Marion Koopmans the NWO Stevin Prize. The Spinoza and the Stevin Prizes are the highest awards in Dutch science. Each laureate will receive 2.5 million euros, which they can spend on scientific research and activities related to knowledge utilisation.

Ten consortia will now work on further expanding their consortium for a living lab and the possible submission of a proposal for a Sustainable Living Lab in the second phase. The living labs make research possible in practical situations within a defined environment such as in cities, ports and logistical nodes. The intended research must contribute insights for logistics in relation to energy and water & maritime. NWO expects to publish the call for the second phase this summer.

The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research has awarded 86 experienced researchers a Vidi grant worth 800,000 euros. The grant enables them to develop their own innovative line of research and set up their own research group in the coming five years.
