Today four top researchers received the NWO Spinoza Prize from the State Secretary for Education, Culture and Science, Sander Dekker and NWO chairman Jos Engelen. The award ceremony was held at the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague. The Spinoza Prize is the highest award in Dutch science. During the awards ceremony physical-organic chemist Wilhelm Huck, philosopher Lodi Nauta, internist/infectious disease specialist Mihai Netea and nanophysicist Bart van Wees presented their plans for using the research prize worth 2.5 million euros per person.

NWO has awarded Rubicon grants to 22 young researchers. They will do research at top foreign institutes into topics like gravitational waves, sleep regulation, and the legitimacy of preventative intervention in the case of potential terrorists.

Physical-organic chemist Wilhelm Huck, philosopher Lodi Nauta, internist/infectious disease specialist Mihai Netea and nanophysicist Bart van Wees will receive the NWO Spinoza Prize on 13 September. The announcement was made today by NWO chairman Jos Engelen. The NWO Spinoza Prize is the highest Dutch award in science and consists of an amount of 2.5 million euros to be used for scientific research.
