NWO-WOTRO Science for global development recently launched a call for proposals on strengthening the scientific base for knowledge brokering activities and approaches in research programmes. The call is entitled SURe: Science for Using Research. The deadline for applications is 31 January 2017.

NWO-WOTRO Science for Global Development has launched the fifth call for proposals within the Applied Research Fund of the research programme Security & Rule of Law in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Settings. This call focuses on mixed migration flows. The call has been developed in close collaboration with the Knowledge Platform Security & Rule of Law.

This policy brief examines sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Unity State and offers a number of policy options to help reduce the use of SGBV as a weapon of war in South Sudan moving forward. It was developed in the Security and Rule of Law research programme of NWO-WOTRO Science for Global Devlopment, in cooperation with the Security and Rule of Law Knowledge Platform.

NWO-WOTRO Science for Global Development granted two projects for the third round of the ‘Call for evidence-informed ideas’ within the Applied Research Fund of the research programme Security & Rule of Law in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Settings. The call focuses on ideas (for research, projects, approaches, policies, programmes, tools) that will provide new insights in international responses to the question what the international community is able to offer in the face of new threats and challenges to peace, security and development.
NWO-WOTRO Science for Global Development granted six projects in the ‘Call for proposals on Comprehensive Approaches to Human Security’ within the Strategic Research Fund of the research programme Security & Rule of Law in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Settings. The Call aims to contribute to new evidence-based knowledge and insights on policies and intervention theories and strategies regarding inclusive, comprehensive approaches to human security in fragile and conflict-affected settings, in view of transnational security threats.
NWO-WOTRO Science for Global Development granted one project in the ‘Call for applied research on the influence of transnational challenges in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Settings’ within the Applied Research Fund of the research programme Security & Rule of Law in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Settings. The awarded project of Nigel White from the University of Nottingham focuses on the security of transnational flows of natural resources in Indonesia. It is a study into the role of private and state security actors in protecting the interests of the international extractive industry and their impact on the human rights and security of local people.
NWO-WOTRO Science for Global Development granted eleven projects in third round of the ‘Open call for evidence-based policy advice and tools’ within the Applied Research Fund of the research programme Security & Rule of Law in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Settings. This Open call aims to (develop tools that) provide new evidence-based insights in the underlying assumptions, feasibility and/or impact of policies on, or approaches for security and rule of law in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Settings and unlock the knowledge for practitioners organisations.
