European Gender Summit on diversity in science and research

11 July 2019

On 3 and 4 October, the Gender Summit will be held in Amsterdam. The aim of this summit is to make gender equality the norm in research and innovation and to embed gender as an important characteristic of quality. The two-day Gender Summit is held on different continents every year. This is the 17th edition and the first time that a Gender Summit takes place in the Netherlands.

The summit is a platform for dialogue, where scientists, policymakers, gender experts and stakeholders from within and outside science explore new scientific insights. The central question is what is needed for more diversity and gender balance in innovation and research.

The Summit in Amsterdam is organized by NWO, KNAW, VSNU, Vereniging Hogescholen, LNVH, TNO, VHTO, ECHO, Portia and The Elsevier Foundation and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. As a result, recommendations will be drawn up for the European Commission and the European Parliament. Minister Van Engelshoven (Ministry of Education, Culture and Science) also wants to use the results of this Gender Summit, in collaboration with the scientific field, to draw up a national diversity action plan in 2020.
