They will investigate, amongst other things, juvenile criminal law, climate change, inivisible gravitational waves in the Milky Way and artificial intelligence for improved ultrasonography.

Top institutes

Thanks to the Rubicon grant, these young researchers can do their research at top institutes like the University of Cambridge and Harvard University. Ten Rubicon researchers will go abroad for a period of 24 months, two for 18 months, four for 12 months and another for 14 months. For many researchers, experience abroad is an important step in their career. The awards are for the third funding round of 2018.

Facts and figures

A total of 77 researchers submitted a proposal for Rubicon, of which 32 women and 45 men. The overall award rate was 22.1%. The award rate was 21.9% for women and 22.2% for men. Six laureates are going to the United Kingdom, four to the United States, three to Switzerland. The rest of the individual researchers go to Japan, Austria, Denmark and Israel. For many researchers, experience abroad is an important step in their career.

With a Rubicon grant researchers can conduct research for a period up to 24 months at a foreign research institute. The size of the grant depends on the destination chosen and the length of stay. NWO is able to fund around 60 young researchers through Rubicon every year (for a total sum of 7 million euros, spread over three rounds).
