Pre-announcement of new NWA call and matchmaking for 'Future directions in Dutch archaeological research'

20 February 2019

Together with the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), NWO has developed the research programme 'Future directions in Dutch archaeological research'. The programme fits in closely with the Minister's aim of protecting our heritage and keeping it accessible (as expressed in the policy brief 'Erfgoed telt' ['Heritage counts'] and with the Dutch National Research Agenda. The call is expected to open for submissions mid-March 2019.

The aim of the new programme is to inspire research that uses innovative methods and techniques to answer prominent questions in archaeology. The research should involve the entire knowledge chain and contribute to the development of a sustainable research infrastructure. One of the programme's main ambitions is to develop public-private partnerships that will lead to long-term exchange of knowledge. Examples include training, education and scientific knowledge sharing as well as the shared use of research facilities such as laboratories and equipment.

Call for proposals expected in March 2019

NWO intends to publish the call for proposals in mid-March. The call will invite consortia comprising researchers at knowledge institutions and archaeological companies, as well as societal stakeholders such as regional and other authorities and museums to submit proposals. The total available budget for research proposals is approximately 2.5 million euros.
