Society and the labour market are transforming. Technology and digitalisation, especially robotisation and automation, are testing the ability of both individuals and society to adapt. Globalisation and increasing flexibility are equally challenging.

Everyone faces the challenge of adapting to that changeability throughout their lives. Human capital (knowledge and expertise) is a critical success factor for the flourishing of society and economic growth. Human Capital is directly interwoven with the changeability of society and the labour market. Education, courses and training must allow for this.

The theme "Learning in Learning Communities" has been designed by NWO in close consultation with the top sectors. "Lifelong learning and development" is a main subject from the Human Capital Roadmap 2016-2020 of the top sectors (only in Dutch). The top sectors have developed a new and inspiring conceptual model: Learning Communities.

How can people learn, develop and adapt throughout their lives? Which cognitive, emotional and social mechanisms and contextual factors play which role in this process? Can knowledge about this be effectively translated into a better learning-work set up?

The maximum available budget for this call is 2.5 million euros, applications may request funding between 400,000 en 500,000 euros.

On March 13, a matchmaking event will take place for anyone interested at a central location in the Netherlands.

The deadline for applications will be May 7, 2019 at 14:00 hours CE(S)T.
