Wanted: Board member with impact

Are you the director who wants to further increase the impact of application-oriented engineering research? Then the Board of NWO Domain AES is looking for you.

NWO Domain Applied and Engineering Sciences (AES) faces the challenge of further increasing the societal impact of groundbreaking technical research. The ambition is to play an active role in the strategic linking of (inter) national and regional knowledge agendas. Examples include the top sector policy of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate and the various routes in the National Science Agenda (NWA). Themes such as health and healthcare, sustainable food production, water technology, water safety, smart industry and energy transition in combination with the development of key technologies play an important role.

NWO Domain AES fulfills its role from a strong position in the area of ​​public-private co-operation and the application of the developed scientific knowledge. To this end, AES brings together relevant users of the to be developed knowledge from the start of a research project. Around 50 AES employees jointly ensure the organisation and supervision of the research programmes of 100 million euros per year.

Within the Board of NWO Domain AES a vacancy has arisen for a new member who wants to contribute to this ambition.

In consultation with the executive Management Team of NWO Domain AES and NWO's Executive Board, the strategic policy is determined and updated annually under the responsibility of the Domain management. In addition, the Domain management decides on the deployment and development of the financing instruments as well as on the allocation of financial resources. Board members are directors of knowledge-intensive companies and professors in the field of technical sciences with a leading position at a Dutch university or research institute.

Given the current composition, AES is looking for a candidate with an academic background and associated relevant network. On average, a time allocation of 2 days per month will be requested. The Board meets every three weeks on Friday morning in the NWO building in Utrecht.
