New call on Indian urban water systems

6 August 2018

The Indian Government Department of Science & Technology (DST) and NWO recently opened a joint call with the topic ‘Urban Water Systems: Towards sustainable and integrated urban water management systems in fast-growing secondary cities’. Ultimately at 10 September 2018, Dutch and Indian researchers can submit an Expression of Interest to participate in a sandpit workshop for the joint development of an interdisciplinary Dutch-Indian research programme.

This research programme should address the complex challenges to urban water systems faced by fast-growing cities resulting from population growth, rapid urbanisation and the effects of climate change. It is focused on the need for an integrated systems approach in developing interrelated technological, institutional and financial solutions for sustainable urban water management. This research programme should address the complex challenges to urban water systems faced by fast-growing cities resulting from population growth, rapid urbanisation and the effects of climate change. Call for expressions of interest

The call aims to develop a joint Indian-Dutch research programme by means of a Sandpit model. This is an interactive brainstorm workshop, in which a selected group of Indian and Dutch researchers and stakeholders come together in a creative, free-thinking environment - away from their everyday routines and responsibilities – to jointly design the research programme. The key objective of the Sandpit is to mobilise researchers with diverse scientific backgrounds and practitioners with various perspectives in order to engender innovative thinking and new approaches for research on integrated urban water systems.

The call is open for individual Dutch and Indian researchers who are willing and able to actively engage in the Sandpit workshop in India (27-30 November 2018) and resulting research programme. Please find more information on the call and Sandpit procedure on the NWO/DST website
