NORFACE Welfare State Futures final conference

15 May 2018

On 24-25 May 2018, NORFACE will organise the final conference of its research programme Welfare State Futures (WSF). The conference will communicate the findings from the fifteen transnational WSF research projects, as well as their policy implications, to the wider public, as such concluding three years of transnational innovative research on the future of European welfare systems.

The findings of the fifteen transnational NORFACE Welfare State Futures (WSF) research projects, as well as their policy implications will be presented at the final conference in May 2018.

NORFACE (New Opportunities for Research Funding Agencies Cooperation in Europe) launched the WSF research programme in 2013 to ask, and answer, fundamental questions about the aims, functions and designs of welfare states in the 21st century. The fifteen research projects funded by NORFACE are researching topics ranging from health inequalities, globalisation, families, migration and social security rights, to citizens’ support for the welfare state. At the Final Conference, researchers from these projects will present their findings to the academic community and various stakeholders, including former Dutch Ministers Ab Klink and Jet Bussemaker, representatives from the European Commission, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The conference takes place at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, and is the concluding work of the WSF Scientific Programme Coordinator Prof. Ellen M. Immergut. The conference is organized around various issues related to the WSF programme’s five research clusters on Health, Migration, Welfare State Attitudes, Child & Family Welfare, and Globalization, Welfare States & Inequalities. The conference programme includes several rounds of panels around these issues, as well as a plenary opening with two keynote lectures and a final roundtable session.
