In SURF Pop Up, consortia of at least one knowledge institution and one public or private partner, can apply for funding for a small project that addresses the need for knowledge about new developments and ad hoc questions within the SURF themes.

SURF Pop Up is part of the knowledge programme SURF, an initiative of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment (IenM), the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK), NWO, Platform31 and NRPO SIA about smart urban regions.

Changes have been made to the procedure of the call in 2017 compared to the previous year. For applicants, the following is of importance:

  • The principle of continuous applications has been replaced by several set deadlines per year. In 2017, the first deadline is on 1 June; the second deadline will be in September (exact date will be announced on the financial page soon).
  • This means that applications will be in competition with each other at each deadline, instead of being assessed individually based on the set quality criteria. NWO strives to inform applicants about the funding decision within 8 – 10 weeks after a deadline.

For more information about SURF Pop Up, please contact the SURF secretary, Esther van der Wel, via surf@nwo.nl or (+31) 70 – 344 05 68.
