'Exploring Integrated Arts & Culture Research' - Smart Culture Conference 2017

Contribute your ideas to the future of arts and culture research during the ‘Exploring Integrated Arts & Culture Research’ - Smart Culture conference 2017! The aim of this work conference on 23-24 November 2017 in Amsterdam is to inspire and connect researchers from universities, universities of applied sciences, and art and cultural institutes at the interface of arts, culture and science.

Keynote speakers are Prof. dr. Premesh Lalu – ‘What can we learn from Charlie Chaplin?’ – and dr. Paulo de Assis about ‘Music practice in the 21st-century’. The lectures and debates will be accompanied by thematic sessions and workshops about the arts and culture research agenda of the future. The conference is being jointly organised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands, the Taskforce for Applied Research (NRPO SIA) and NWO.

During various thematic sessions on Thursday 23 November, insights and results will be shared for the following subjects: Makers & Discourse, Society & Narratives, Knowledge & (re)cognition.

On Friday 24 November, two sessions will be held during which the agenda for arts and culture research within the NWO programmes for the coming years will be explored.

Former Minster of Education, Culture and Science Jet Bussemaker, lector Micha Hamel and professors Janneke Wesseling and Timo de Rijk explain the importance of the Smart Culture programme in a short film .
