First European M-ERA.NET Cofund call open

On 15 March 2016 the first call for research proposals of the ERA-NET EU Cofund for 'Materials Science and Engineering' (M-ERA.NET) opened. NWO Chemical Sciences made 1.5 million euro available for Dutch research groups. Deadline for submitting pre-proposals is 14 June 2016, 12:00 hours (CET).

The results of the pre-proposal phase are announced in September 2016. For applicants who are invited to submit a full proposal, the deadline is set 10 November 2016, 12:00 hours (CET). At the end of January 2017 the results will be made available. Granted projects can start in the spring of 2017. 

NWO will fund the Dutch part of any successful transnational collaboration, within the reach of the available budget. Per proposal a minimum of three partners from at least two different countries participating in the 2016 call is required. All tenure (track) researchers of Dutch universities and selected Dutch institutes under the standard NWO Chemical Sciences rules are eligible to apply. TO2 institutes (TNO, ECN, NLR, Deltares, MARIN and DLO) and universities of applied sciences – HBO-instellingen – may act as (co-) applicant, in addition to the NWO groups. TO2 institutes and universities of applied sciences can also receive (part of) the grant applied for. The maximum total amount applied for by Dutch applicants is kâ‚Ĵ 250 per proposal. M2i is the other Dutch partner in this call; M2i focuses on applied research.

Call topics
Proposals fitting the following topics are eligible:

  • Integrated computational materials engineering (ICME)
  • Innovative surfaces, coatings and interfaces
  • High performance synthetic and biobased composites
  • Functional materials
  • Interfaces between materials and biological hosts for health applications
  • Materials for additive manufacturing
