The Governing Board of NWO is pleased about the appointment of Van Dijck and congratulates her with her new position.

José van Dijck (1960) works at the Department of Media Studies at the University of Amsterdam where she does research into social media, media technologies and digital culture. Since 1 October 2012, Van Dijck has been a member of the NWO Humanities Board.

Van Dijck played an important role in the establishment of CLARIAH, a consortium of humanities research institutions. Last year the consortium received a grant of 12 million euros from NWO for the development of a digital infrastructure. The infrastructure will make it possible to search in large quantities of data and software from different humanities disciplines and, in the next phase, to link these. As a result of this it will be possible to investigate large, cross-disciplinary questions about culture and societal change.
