In the ‘Science Vision 2025: choices for the future’, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science announced on 26 November 2014 that a National Science Agenda will be realised. The task of realising this agenda on behalf of the Dutch Cabinet has been delegated to the organisations that form the Knowledge coalition: VSNU, KNAW, NWO, Vereniging Hogescholen, TNO and Federation TO2, VNO-NCW and MKB Nederland. The proposal for the National Science Agenda must be ready by the end of 2015.

The National Science Agenda will focus on research for which a national approach adds something to the research agendas of individual institutions or existing collaborations. The project will be under the leadership of an independent chair who has yet to be appointed.
