Call for ideas for new research programmes

24 January 2013

The Board of NWO Physical Sciences (GB-EW) is seeking ideas for new research programmes. Until 15 March 2013 researchers within the field of astronomy, computer science or mathematics are invited to submit inspiring and challenging themes. The Board will elaborate a number of ideas into new research programmes with an average budget of approximately € 1 to 1.5 million.

The ideas should address radical innovative and ambitious research as well as on cooperation within the discipline or sub-discipline. There will be scope for monodisciplinary, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary  research. Interdisciplinary subjects on the interface of one of the Physical Sciences disciplines are also eligible. It  is important that the theme enjoy broad support within the discipline or sub-discipline.

From 25 January researchers within the physical sciences can also submit a proposal in the funding instrument TOP. The grant can be used to strengthen or renew challenging and innovative lines of research. Together with the Call for Ideas this substites earlier funding for curiosity driven research, e.g. the Free Competition Scheme (Vrije competitie). In this way two new funding instruments have been created by NWO Physical Sciences to offer new opportunities for curiosity driven research in the years 2013-2015.
