NWO-SSH aims with this conference to establish good connections between the different disciplines and researchers within the SSH domain and between science and society. Such connections will strengthen the position of the Social Sciences and Humanities within the Netherlands and beyond.

We are currently working hard on our programme. Any updates on speakers and sessions will be communicated on, NWO-SSH social media channels and the NWO-SSH newsletter.

Theme: Changing Societies

Our world is changing constantly. This affects the Social Sciences and Humanities in many different ways: the main societal issues we focus on, the availability of funding, but also the way research is done and valued. At the same time is the world influenced by the knowledge and innovation that comes from SSH-research. This reciprocity between science and society will be our main theme this year.

Call for Sessions

Synergy is looking for enthusiastic researchers who wish to engage this year's participants with their creative and sparkling view on change and/or society. Our theme Changing Societies is inspired on the fact that SSH-researchers constantly deal with and relate to change, and we therefore cordially invite interdisciplinary teams, younger scholars and any other with an idea for interactive and cross disciplinary parallel sessions to submit a proposal. The proposal deadline is December 1st. More information about the call, including the selection criteria can be found here.

Synergy 2019: a retrospect

On 7 February 2019, the leading event for Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) in the Netherlands took place: Synergy conference 2019. Keynote speakers, experts, young talents debated with each other and the public the value and impact of the entire field of SSH research.

One of the conference topics was the impact of digitisation on science and on our everyday lives. For example, how do big data and artificial intelligence influence SSH research? How does science benefit from the digitisation of sources? What do robotisation and virtual reality mean for society?
