Synergy Conference 2020

NWO welcomed nearly three hundred researchers and stakeholders from the social sciences and humanities (SSH) to its annual Synergy conference, to listen, discuss, meet and share. The theme of the day was “Changing Societies”.

Synergy 2020 speaker

Societies have always been in constant flux and still are! Politically, economically, in terms of language and communication, behaviourally, in culture, migration, (in)equality, law et cetera. Thought-provoking keynote speeches and debates, the introduction of the SSH Roundtables, parallel sessions, workshops and last, but not least, four inspiring pitches for the Synergy Award were vibrantly presented to the audience.

NWO-SSH aimed with this conference to establish good connections between the different disciplines and researchers within the SSH domain and between science and society. Such connections will strengthen the position of the Social Sciences and Humanities within the Netherlands and beyond. Synergy is the best place to discuss the position of SSH in the broader debate on how to value and nurture science.

We have created a “digital throwback” to this inspirational day. In this magazine, you will find a synthesising overview. Of course, that can only provide a sketch of the entire day in which the participants shaped the content.

Save the date: de vierde editie van Synergy is scheduled on February 4, 2021. News regarding the programme is announced via, NWO-SGW social media and the NWO newsletter.
