Hotels

Participants will be staying in one of nine hotels: NH Koningshof , NH Best, NH Geldrop, Van der Valk Eindhoven, Pullman (Eindhoven), Best Western (Eindhoven), Carlton de Brug (Mierlo), NH Collections Eindhoven en Harba Lorifa Valkenswaard (for MSc-students).

Please take the following into account:

  • We cannot accommodate preferences for one of the locations. No guarantees can be made in which hotel the participant is staying.
  • Single rooms are available for permanent staff only.
  • Postdocs and PhD candidates will be staying in double rooms. Please indicate a preferred roommate when registering for the conference. If no roommate is indicated, the organisation will allocate one.
  • MSc students will be staying in Harba Lorifa Valkenswaard.

Bus service

NWO will provide a bus service between Eindhoven Central Station and NH Koningshof on Tuesday and Wednesday morning and between NH Koningshof and Eindhoven Central Station on Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon. If you wish to use this bus service, please indicate this on your registration form.

NWO will also provide free transportation to the other hotels on Tuesday evening after the evening programme and on Wednesday morning in time for the morning sessions.

Childcare

NWO offers free professional childcare on site at NH Koningshof for all participants of Physics@Veldhoven. You can request for the childcare via the registration form. If you have any questions, you can contact us at physicsveldhoven@nwo.nl or at +31 (0)30 600 12 22.

NWO employees can also apply for refund of extra childcare costs (see the NWO Implementation Regulations, IR-3, page 21, article 10) associated with business trips via the 'Expense claim form'. Please note that a receipt is required for this application.

MSc-students

Only a limited number of MSc-students is allowed to participate in the conference. A draw will take place if the number of registered MSc-students exceeds the maximum.

Monday evening

Attending the Monday evening meeting is for group leaders only. If you are a group leader and interested in attending this meeting, please indicate this on your online registration form.

Masterclasses

Only PhD students who have never attended a masterclass at our conference before are allowed to register for one of the four masterclasses. When registering for one of the masterclasses PhD students are requested to fill in the subject of their thesis and what year they are in (1st, 2nd, etc.).

Acceptance of registration for a masterclass will firstly be based on the subject of their thesis and the connection of it to the subject of the masterclass and secondly on seniority. When the masterclass is not filled, a draw among the other registered PhD student will take place. The masterclasses will be given by the three plenary speakers and one other invited speaker.

Communications Workshop

This year NWO and the NNV jointly organise a communications workshop which will take place directly after the NNV focus session  on Tuesday 23 January. This workshop  will give you the opportunity to have a private session with an expert in science communication. From them you can get advice on e.g. writing scientific articles, use of social media and dealing with the media. Interest in this workshop can be indicated on the online form. Registration will open later.

Physics meets Industry

This year we will organise another Physics meets Industry event, where researchers and companies can meet and inspire each other. This event is open to all participants, including PhD students. On Wednesday 24 January you will have the opportunity to pitch your research ideas, go on a speed date with a number of companies and/or networking organisations or explore career opportunities.  Following the Physics meets Industry event there will be a Physics meets Industry focus session, which will focus on how researchers and companies can come together to tackle societal challenges. The programme offers ample networking opportunities.

Participants and companies are invited to express their interest in this event on the online registration form.

Costs

Attending Physics@Veldhoven 2018 is free of charge. However, registered participants that do not attend and who fail to cancel, will be charged €200,00.

Submission of an abstract does not imply registration

The abstract deadline was 8 September 2017 and is now closed. Please note that the submission of abstracts does not imply registration for the conference.
