Innovational Research Incentives Scheme Vidi (interdivisional)

The Innovational Research Incentives Scheme Vidi is a grant for experienced researchers.

Purpose

Vidi gives researchers who have already spent several years doing postdoctoral research the opportunity to develop their own innovative lines of research, and to appoint one or more researchers. Vidi is part of the Talent Scheme.

Who can apply

Vidi is aimed at the excellent researcher who following his/her PhD has carried out several years of research and in doing this has demonstrated the ability to independently generate and effect innovative ideas. Researchers who have obtained their PhD within the last 8 years can apply for a Vidi grant.

There may be a possibility of an extension in some cases. Further information is available in the document Frequently Asked Questions.

Researchers from outside the Netherlands may apply.

A researcher may apply for a Vidi grant on a maximum of two occasions.

What can be applied for

The maximum grant is 800,000 euros.

When to apply

A funding round is held every year. The deadline for submitting applications in the 2016 round was 6 October, 14:00 hrs (Central European Time).

Applications received after the deadline are automatically disqualified.

Assessment

All Vidi applications are assessed in a nationwide competition.

Criteria

The assessment criteria are:

  • quality of the researcher
  • quality, innovative character and academic impact of the research proposal
  • knowledge utilisation

Procedure

Each NWO Division has a broad-based committee of scientists that advises NWO's Governing Board about the quality and relevance of proposals. A separate committee exists for interdisciplinary applications. Via this webpage you submit an application to the interdivisional panel.

All proposals must be submitted via ISAAC, NWO' s electronic application system. This does not apply to proposals for NWO Medical Sciences. These should be submitted to the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMw) via ProjectNet.

Researchers need not make arrangements with an institute or university until their grant has been confirmed.

Aspasia is a grant linked to the Vidi and Vici competitive grant scheme. The following are eligible for Aspasia:

  • female researchers who have been awarded a grant under the Vidi and Vici scheme
  • female researchers who met the criteria for Vidi or Vici after the interview procedure, but did not receive a grant due to a funding shortfall.

The Aspasia grant is awarded to Executive Boards that promote female candidates to the position of assistant or full professor within a year after the decisions in the Vidi or Vici round. Further information is available on the Aspasia page.
