Encouraging European Research

Publicly funded knowledge institutions, that are included in the target group list and that acquire European funds within Horizon 2020, are eligible for a funding via the Encouraging European Research regulation.

Purpose

The Encouraging European Research regulation aims to increase Dutch participation of the publicly funded knowledge institutions in EU programmes for research and innovation.

Who can apply

Funds from the Encouraging European Research regulation cannot be applied for. These are awarded to publicly funded knowledge institutions on the basis of contracts concluded within Horizon 2020. The target group has been set by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. 

What to apply for

The Encouraging European Research regulation makes a contribution towards the efforts made by institutions for the acquisition of EU contracts. The size of the grant is a percentage of the funds acquired from Horizon 2020. 

When to apply

Midway December these funds are awarded by NWO on the basis of the contracts concluded within Horizon 2020 in the previous year.

Assessment

There are no selection criteria. 

Procedure

NWO receives an overview from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) of the Horizon 2020 contracts with the size of the EU funds received by the target group. Based on this list, NWO will determine the total size of the funding and the award letters will preferably be sent to the institutions within the same year.
