Interlinked Research Projects

This grant is an instrument to make greater depth and coherency possible within the Dutch Initiative for Education Research (NRO). The primary role of NRO is to fund research into Dutch educational practice and policy.

Purpose

Only proposals for subjects within the following research lines may be submitted:

  • Curriculum
  • Education and technology
  • The socialising function of education
  • Professional development of education professionals
  • Education across the life cycle
  • Governing of and in the education system
  • The role of research in education innovation

Who can apply

A pre-proposal may only be submitted by full, associate or assistant professors or other researchers who hold a PhD and have an appointment at a Dutch university or para-university institute for at least the duration of the research for which the grant is requested.

What to apply for

Proposals can be submitted for interlinked research projects with a minimum duration of four years and a maximum duration of five years and a budget up to a minimum of 400,000 euros and a maximum of 450,000 euros. This grant is particularly suitable for a proposal for interlinked projects of a larger size in which several researchers collaborate.

When to apply

  • The closing date for submitting pre-proposals is January 21st, 2020, 14:00 hrs.
  • The closing date for submitting full proposals is July the 2nd, 2020, 14:00 hrs.

Assessment

Criteria

  • Scientific quality
  • Scientific significance
  • Past performance and track record
  • Programme-related significance

Procedure

This funding round consists of pre-proposals and full proposals. The selection procedure therefore has two phases:

  • Assessment of the pre-proposals (phase 1)
  • Assessment of the full proposals (phase 2)

A broadly appointed committee assesses the proposals and advises NRO. At the end of April 2020, the candidates with the best chance of receiving a grant will be invited to submit a full proposal. Candidates with a smaller chance of receiving a grant will be advised against submitting a full proposal.
