Electrochemical Conversion and Materials, Tenure Track Call

Please note deadline shifts: The deadline for rounds whose pre-registration deadline has already passed, and for which detailed applications need to be submitted, will be extended by two months (the closing date shown opposite).

NWO’s policy towards funding and the impact of the coronavirus

As a result of the outbreak of the coronavirus, NWO has drafted a guideline to provide applicants with clarity. NWO takes into consideration that under these circumstances it is not always possible that all candidates have an equal opportunity to submit their applications and it is important that we are confident when evaluating applications that we are doing so correctly.

Please note deadline shifts: The deadline for rounds whose pre-registration deadline has already passed, and for which detailed applications need to be submitted, will be extended by two months.

The closing date shown on this page is not up to date. It gives no indication of the new closing date. NWO will communicate the new time frame for this call, including the current closing date, as soon as it becomes clear how long the measures restricting physical contact will last.

For more information about measures for which no deadlines have passed yet – ongoing rounds - , and updates on this temporary guideline go to nwo.nl/corona-en

Prospective tenure track researchers within the ECCM field are invited to submit a proposal with support from a suitable host institution.

The goal of this call is strengthening the research field of Electrochemical Conversion and Materials through the introduction of tenure track positions. Responsible Research and Innovation (MVI) is an integral part of this call for proposals.

Who can apply

Proposals can be submitted by applicants from the Netherlands or abroad who have obtained their PhD (i.e. postdocs) and want to apply for a new tenure track position at a Dutch research institute. Applicants that held a senior research position (tenure track position, assistant professor, associate professor, full professor or comparable) before June 21st 2019 are not eligible. Applicants that are already employed by their prospective host institute as a post-doc are eligible. Applications should contain an embedding guarantee from the host institute.

What to apply for

A maximum of € 950.000 can be requested to finance a tenure track position, scientific personnel, material and investments. The maximum duration is 6,25 years.

When to apply

  • The deadline for the submission of proposals is November 21, 2019

The first step in the assessment procedure is to test whether an application is admissible. After that, all applicants will be invited for an interview by an international assessment committee. The committee assesses the applications by reference to the criteria and then ranks them according to their chances of success. Based on the committee’s advice, the NWO Domain Science Board decides on the award of funding.

The application should contain a paragraph which describes how research on societal and ethical aspects will be incorporated in your research. After granting, all successful applicants will be invited for a mandatory matchmaking event with MVI experts in order to expand on this MVI paragraph. For the expanded MVI paragraph, additional funding will be available through a separate top-up grant. Successful applicants are obliged to submit an application for the MVI top-up grant.
