Astronomy is part of the NWO Domain Science (ENW). The Astronomy roundtable is an important advisory body for the NWO Domain Science Board.
The working field covers all processes beyond the atmosphere: planets, solar systems and the laws of physics in space.
Stimulating and facilitating Dutch astronomy requires a strong connection with researchers, public partners and private partners in the field, for example through participation in national meetings. A good connection with other organisational units of NWO as well as knowledge institutions is also vital.
NWO encourages collaborations and strategic programmes within several top sectors that are relevant for astronomy and that align with the Dutch National Research Agenda. NWO is also involved in national and international developments and puts research on the European and global agendas, for example via European networks. Via various memberships, Dutch researchers gain access to European and global research infrastructure, such as participation in international space instruments for Earth observation and space telescopes.
Martijn Deenen is the head of the Earth Sciences and Astronomy Team.
