Scientific research within the NWO theme Creative Industry actively focuses on strengthening the international position of the Dutch creative sector.

Humanities in the European Research Area

Within the HERA network (Humanities in the European Research Area) there is currently an international research programme entitled Humanities as a source of Creativity and Innovation.

Digging into Data

Together with the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, NWO is conducting a valorisation programme entitled Digging into Data. Scientists are investigating the options for opening up vast quantities of data.


Within the programme Science4Arts, NWO is collaborating with the National Science Foundation and the Getty Foundation.

Joint Programming Initiative Cultural Heritage and Global Change

In the field of Cultural Heritage, NWO is working with the Rijksdienst voor Cultureel Erfgoed (Dutch National Heritage Board) on Dutch participation in the European Joint Programming Initiative on Cultural Heritage and Global Change.

Cooperation China - Joint Scientific Thematic Research Programme (JSTP)

The research programme Cooperation China - JSTP offers funding for joint research projects in areas in which both The Netherlands and China excel. The 2015 Call for Proposals addresses the research topic 'Creative Industries'.

Collaboration TWA network in India

In addition, NWO is currently working with the TWA (Technical Scientific Attaché) network in India on a bilateral public-private programme in the field of serious gaming and media and ICT.
