Funding instruments

The NWO Domain Applied and Engineering Sciences (AES, previously Technology Foundation STW) is responsible for various funding instruments.

Open Technology Programme

The Open Technology Programme is a bottoms-up platform for developing good technological-scientific ideas.

Within the Perspectief programmes, scientists work with a consortium of companies on specific scientific topics in order to further develop a technology.

If a company has a specific technological-scientific question, a Partnership programme may offer a solution. The company or organisation establishes the key topic and pays half of the programme costs.

Take-off and Demonstrator

With Take-off (previously the Valorisation Grant), NWO Domain AES gives new entrepreneurs that last helping hand towards the market; with Demonstrator, it helps with the development of a demonstration model.

High Tech Systems and Materials (HTSM)

Technological breakthroughs and innovative applications often require cooperation: within the High Tech Systems and Materials (HTSM) programme, researchers and companies are challenged to jointly develop knowledge for this purpose.

Open Mind

Technology with an unusual societal application receives the space it needs with Open Mind. Socially-involved researchers can use this accessible subsidy to submit original ideas for which no other subsidies exist.

Talent Scheme

Assuming that new technology starts with talent and ideas, NWO Domain AES offers talented researchers the opportunity to develop themselves with the Talent Scheme. Calls are written by NWO. The Domain board of Applied and Engineering Sciences evaluates submissions in the field of technical-scientific research. The NWO Executive Board determines the remunerations.

In addition to these instruments, AES is co-financier of even more themed programmes. In many cases, these are conducted in collaboration with other parties. Therefore, they often have a slightly different aim than the other instruments.
