International collaboration

Internationalisation of Social Sciences

Apart from the network maintained by and among researchers, NWO actively seeks to join international initiatives in order to bring together the best research groups and researchers in the field of social sciences. These initiatives are financed with NWO funds, partner funds and occasionally by the European Commission. NWO participates in the following networks and instruments:

Networks and cooperation within Europe

NORFACE: New Opportunities for Research Funding Agency Co-operation in Europe
NORFACE (New Opportunities for Research Funding Agency Cooperation in Europe) has offered unique opportunities for participating funding agencies by developing common research funding instruments, thus creating opportunities for facilitating and building new networks of research collaboration in the social sciences. Open Research Area (ORA)
The Open Research Area (ORA) finances collaborative research projects in the social sciences in The Netherlands, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. More information

Joint Programming Initiative (JPI) Urban Europe
Through JPI Urban Europe, member countries can generate European solutions for urban challenges by means of coordinated research. The aim is to create attractive, sustainable and economically viable urban areas, in which European citizens, communities and their surroundings can thrive. More information

Joint Programming Initiative (JPI) Climate
JPI Climate is a collaboration between 14 European countries to coordinate jointly their climate research and fund new transnational research initiatives. More information: JPI Climate.

European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI)
ESFRI is a strategic instrument to develop the scientific integration of Europe and to strengthen its international outreach. The competitive and open access to high quality Research Infrastructures supports and benchmarks the quality of the activities of European scientists. More information
