Programme for Educational Research - Interlinked Research Projects

Line of action : Science for society
Secretariat : MaGW
Apply : No, a new round is (still) uncertain

Objective

The PROO has a new programme centred around four research lines that form a balance between questions at micro, meso and macro levels.

  • Educational learning processes and their yield
  • Educational personnel
  • Pedagogic function of education
  • Characteristics of educational systems and the key functions of education

With these research lines the PROO intends to make a contribution to more evidence-based education. In other words a contribution to scientific knowledge that will make it easier for education to achieve its goals. There is a growing demand for effective methods and approaches. Using suitable research, subsidiary elements should be examined to see whether an approach works, and if so, how. Clear output measures should be used to assess this.

In addition to this the PROO welcomes research that is:

  • Scientifically innovative;
  • Draws knowledge from everyday practice into the research;
  • Pays attention to the possible use of the research results;
  • Brings together insights from several disciplines;
  • Integrates themes from the research lines;
  • Contains a substantial international component.

Procedure

Characteristics of educational systems and the key functions of education In this funding round both preproposals and full proposals shall be used. This means that there will be two phases in the evaluation procedure: the evaluation of the preproposals (phase 1) and the evaluation of the full proposals (phase 2).

Preproposals are proposals in brief. A broadly composed committee uses evaluation criteria to assesses the likelihood of the proposal being funded and then advises the Dutch Programme Council for Educational Research about which applicants should elaborate their proposals. The candidates most likely to receive funding for their proposal shall be invited to submit a full proposal in the second half of April 2010. The less likely candidates are strongly advised not to submit a full proposal. As this is merely an advice, there is no possibility to lodge a formal appeal or objection.

A full proposal may only be submitted if a preliminary proposal has been submitted.
