Programme for Educational Research - Interlinked Research Projects
| Line of action | : | Science for society |

With this funding instrument, the PROO allows for the financing of larger-scare research, with the participation of multiple researchers and/or the inclusion of multiple research projects. Cooperation between several disciplines is particularly valued.
The 2012-2015 Research Programme is the PROO’s third multi-year programme. It is centered around four research lines that form a balance between questions at micro, meso and macro levels. As a general rule, applicants may only submit proposals within these four lines of research:
- Educational learning processes and their outcomes;
- Teachers and school organization;
- The educational system;
- Education’s pedagogic function.
Research proposals concerning an issue described in a line of study that are not focused on the selected research lines, will not be considered.
Who can apply
A preliminary proposal can only be submitted by a main applicant who is a researcher holding a doctorate and in the permanent employment of a Dutch university/para-university or research institute recognised by NWO.
What can be applied for
Preliminary proposals for Interlinked Research Projects may be submitted with a maximum duration of four years and up to € 750,000 in size. These conditions make requests for larger connected research projects possible, with the participation of multiple researchers and/or consisting of multiple project parts.
When can be applied
- Closing date for the submission of preliminary proposals was 16 April 2012, 23.59 hrs
- Closing date for the submission of full proposals is 18 September 2012, 14.30 hrs
Criteria
The content of the proposals will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
- Fitting in research Programme for Educational Research 2012-2015;
- Past performance and track record;
- Scientific quality;
- Scientific significance;
- Strategic value.
Procedure
In this funding round both preliminary proposals and full proposals shall be used. This means that there will be two phases in the evaluation procedure: the evaluation of the preliminary proposals (phase 1) and the evaluation of the full proposals (phase 2).
Preliminary proposals are proposals in brief. A broadly composed committee uses evaluation criteria to assesses the likelihood of the proposal being funded and then advises the Dutch Programme Council for Educational Research about which applicants should elaborate their proposals. The candidates most likely to receive funding for their proposal shall be invited to submit a full proposal in the second half of July 2012. The less likely candidates are strongly advised not to submit a full proposal. As this is merely an advice, there is no possibility to lodge a formal appeal or objection.
A full proposal may only be submitted if a preliminary proposal has been submitted.
Committees
The evaluation committee will be appointed by the PROO. The members of the committee will be chosen on the basis of their expertise and non-involvement in the applications. The committee will be chaired by a technical chair.
Budget
4 million euros for the second funding round of interlinked research projects.
