Samenvatting
The efficient simulation of turbulent flows governed by the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations remains an ongoing challenge. A particular example is the turbulent flow in wind-turbine wakes. Knowledge of the flow is an important factor in the design and positioning of wind turbines in wind farms.
We have developed new numerical methods based on Runge-Kutta methods for the time-integration of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, which exhibit certain properties that make them especially favourable for simulating turbulent flows. In order to evaluate their performance they have to be tested on realistic 3D turbulent flow problems. The current project is directed at combining the efficiency of the time-integration methods with an efficient parallel implementation.
