the genome of flatworm Macrstomum lignano, and this project is financed by Hubrecht Institute. The estimated genome size of M. lignano is 600 Mb, and we are utilizing second-generation sequencing technologies (454, Illumina/Solexa, SOLiD) to produce ~60x coverage of the genome in order to generate a high quality hybrid genome assembly.
We have recently generated 40x genome coverage sequencing data for M. lignano genome, and assembling this amount of data using existing genome assembly software requires a system with large amount of RAM (~200GB). The computational cluster at Hubrecht Institute is limited to nodes with 64GB RAM. I therefore apply for access to the Huygens system as a PILOT project.
