Anxiety for food

We should not get so worked up about eating too much fat, too much salt or too much food. We have more than enough to eat and the fact that a number of people are overweight does not mean that obesity is a threat to the entire society. With this proposition Rob Lyons, deputy editor-in-chief of the critical British Internet magazine Spiked is making the Western world and visitors to Bessensap sit up and take notice. Bessensap is the annual gathering between the press and science and will take place on 4 June in the Museon in The Hague.

Teachers talk differently with migrant parents about the school performance of their child

Dutch parents encourage their children to perform well at school in a different manner than parents with a migrant background. The vision of teachers often fits in better with that of Dutch parents. This gives rise to communication problems between the school and migrant parents, conclude NWO-funded researchers Mariëtte de Haan, Inge Wissink and Ed Elbers from Utrecht University.
