NWO co-organised 6th Open Science Meeting in Indonesia

6th Open Science Meeting On November 29 and 30, 2011 more than 100 Indonesian and Dutch scholars met in Jakarta for the Rise to the Water Challenge during the sixth Open Science Meeting. NWO is, together with the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), one of the organisers and co-financers of this joint Indonesian and Dutch programme, which was hosted by the Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI).

The meeting was officially opened by the Minister of Science and Technology (RISTEK) Gusti Muhammad Hatta. After that, the presidents of AIPI, professor dr. Sangkot Marzuki, and of KNAW, professor dr. Robert Dijkgraaf, delivered the opening speeches. They both referred to the long research collaboration in various disciplines between the two countries and the focus on water issues as one of the main topics to address globally, together with food and energy. The Open Science Meeting was closed by the director of NWO-WOTRO, Reneé van Kessel-Hagesteijn. She provided an overview of all joint Indonesian/Dutch water-related research carried out in the past decades.
