FOM Institute for Subatomic Physics Nikhef
Mission
Nikhef conducts research into elementary particles and fields, and in this way, reconstructs powerful processes that occurred in the early universe, 13.7 billion years ago. Nikhef coordinates and supervises all Dutch experiments at the European Organization for Nuclear Research, CERN in Geneva, and in the field of cosmic ray research. Nikhef is one of the research laboratories of FOM.
Year of foundation
In 1946 the Dutch Instituut voor Kernfysisch Onderzoek was founded. Later, this was changed into Nationaal Instituut voor Kernfysica en Hoge Energiefysica (Nikhef). Current name: Nikhef National Institute for Subatomic Physics.
