Call for proposals: TASENE

The TASENE programme is a unique collaboration between COSTECH (Tanzania), Sida (Sweden) and NWO-WOTRO (The Netherlands). TASENE invites applications from recent PhD graduates in any discipline to conduct full time research over two years, jointly with colleagues from the other countries. The researchers will work in Tanzania and in either Sweden or The Netherlands. Research should be relevant to the research and university system in Tanzania.

Aim
The aim of the programme is to enhance scientific excellence and strengthen research collaboration between Europe and Africa, on the basis of equality in research support and research management.

Main features
  • The research project should focus on fundamental research. Two post-docs should be involved: one a Tanzanian based in Tanzania; the other a researcher based in either Sweden or the Netherlands.
  • The collaboration should result in at least two publications in an open source journal by 2015. The research should be relevant to the research and university system in Tanzania.
Eligibility
  1. The programme is open for main applicants and co-applicants that are affiliated with a recognized centre (university/research institute) for scientific research based in Tanzania, Sweden or The Netherlands; one of the post-docs should be the main applicant and the other the co-applicant. Both the main and co-applicants should have a named supervisor.
  2. The main applicant and the co-applicant must:
    • have a PhD degree, received within the last 5 years;
    • be based in a research institution for the duration of the project
  3. Women are strongly encouraged to apply.
Funding
Total available funds: €1.8 M over 2 years. The maximum budget of any proposal may not exceed €386.000.

Deadline
The deadline for submission of the pre-proposals is 30th August 2011. This two year project should start by 30 June 2012.
