ChemThem

Line of action : Science for society
Secretariat : CW
Apply : Yes, but at a later stage

Objective

Chemical Science (CW) has been seeking ideas for new research programmes (ChemThem initiatives) and has invited researchers to contribute to this process.

A ChemThem initiative contains a chemical/molecular sciences problem, which is tackled via challenging, innovative research methods. The programme aims to determine the potential of new research fields by means of risky research. Seeking the boundaries of knowledge can generate ideas that will ultimately become the leading trend in the field or subfield concerned.

A successful ChemThem initiative contains the following elements:

  • the research is genuinely innovative and at the frontiers of science;
  • the programme is unique in its discipline;
  • the programme can be used as a showcase to demonstrate the strength and beauty of chemistry;
  • the research carried out is of outstanding scientific quality.

Application

What can be applied for

Researchers can submit a ChemThem project proposal to the separate thematic research programmes. From the ideas that the Divisional Board of the Chemical Sciences had received by July 2010, the following two ChemThem initiatives were selected:
