SyNeW 2011

Synchrotron and Neutron Workshop 2011

SyNeW 2011 brings together Belgian and Dutch users of synchrotron and neutron radiation large-scale facilities following the tradition set by the workshops 2006 in The Hague and 2009 in Brussels. It is a one day meeting giving an overview of the latest scientific results and most recent trends and developments at the national and European levels.

Synchrotron radiation and Neutron beams are versatile and indispensable tools in material science, chemistry, biology, cultural heritage or fundamental research. In this rapidly evolving field the Free Electron Lasers (FEL) or the next generation Neutron Spallation Sources open up new scientific opportunities and new fields of research.

Belgian scientists use the neutron facilities of the Institute Laue- Langevin (ILL) in Grenoble through a Belgian-Swedish consortium. The Netherlands recently joined the ESS project.

Belgium and The Netherlands participate by 6% to the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) through the BeNeSync consortium composed by the Belgian Federal Science Policy Office (BELSPO) and NWO. This assures access to all ESRF beam lines to Belgian and Dutch scientists. In addition the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO) and NWO fund and run the common CRG beam line DUBBLE.
