Spacing aid - anticipating violence: humanitarian decision making and its effects in South Sudan
Applicant: Prof. dr. D.J.M. Hilhorst (Wageningen University & Researchcenter)
Abstract
The research wil study the effects of humanitarian decision making processes before, during and after the referendum for self-determination in South Sudan in 2011. It is anticipated that the referendum will lead to an escalation in violent conflict, and there are rumours about a possible relapse into war. This research studies how humanitarian agencies operating in the politically charged humanitarian arena of South Sudan position themselves vis-à-vis parties, sectors and beneficiaries, in order to minimize harm from and contribution to violent conflict.
