Ethnic socialisation and the onset of radicalisation

Samenvatting
Research in minority families points to more or less defensive or antagonistic attitudes vis-à-vis the host society, which may consciously or unconsciously be transmitted across generations. It is likely that processes of 'ethnic socialization' also take place within the majority population, given the current context of increased ethnic heterogeneity and polarisation. Research so far has neglected this important domain in understanding and preventing the onset of ethnic conflict. This project aims to fill this knowledge gap, by an in-depth study comparing families from Turkish, Moroccan and Dutch origin with youngsters scoring high or low on proneness to ethnic conflict.
