AWT underscores the relevance of WOTRO's strategic choices
4 June 2010
Last month a new report by the Dutch Advisory Board on Knowledge and Technology Policy (AWT), called 'Knowledge without Borders: Knowledge and Innovation from a Global Perspective', came out. The report (in Dutch) notes that the big societal challenges of today are all global in nature. Therefore it recommends that the Netherlands shifts its knowledge and innovation policy from a Dutch, or European, perspective to a global perspective. The Advisory Board also argues that knowledge and innovation policy should take central place in Dutch development policy.
Obviously this tallies well with the WOTRO approach especially as it will now take on a new shape in the strategy 2011-2014. WOTRO is quite active in trying to enhance synergy between the Dutch policy for development on the one hand and the Dutch policy on science and innovation on the other, especially when it comes to the internationalisation of research. Moreover, in its new strategy WOTRO will focus on the interplay of global and local dimensions of development. The AWT advice, therefore, underscores and confirms the relevance of our strategic choices.
